Prof. Adamson S. MuulaProfessor of Public Health and Epidemiology at College of Medicine, University of Malawi/ Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS)

Professor Adamson Muula is professor of Public Health and Epidemiology at College of Medicine, University of Malawi/ Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) . His formal education in science, medicine, public health and epidemiology was obtained from Flinders University (South Australia), Chancellor College and College of Medicine (Malawi), Loma Linda and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the National Board of Public Health Examiners (US) and the University of Eastern Africa Baraton (Kenya).
He teaches Principles of Epidemiology to Masters in Biostatistics students at Chancellor College, he also supervises students’ research work. At College of Medicine, he has served as Deputy Dean of Medicine and later Dean of Postgraduate Studies and Research at the College of Medicine. He has also served in: College Assessment Committee (as Coordinator), College Appointments and Disciplinary Committee, Chair of the College’s Research and Publications Committee, the College’s Postgraduate Committee, the College Library Committee, the College’s Professorial Inaugural Lectures as well as being councillor in the UNIMA Council, Board Member of the Medical Council of Malawi and the Civil Liberties Committee.
Prof Muula has authored/co-authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals. He has conducted dozens of consultancies in health (e.g. Sexual and Reproductive Health, HIV and AIDS, Family Planning) and assisted in the development of strategic plans for clients as diverse as: Ministry of Health, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNAIDS, National AIDS Commission, Banja La Mtsogolo (BLM), Plan International Malawi, and the World Health Organization. John MatogoGlobal University Programs Leader for International Business Machines Corporation (IBM), Africa.

John Matogo is the Global University Programs Leader for International Business Machines Corporation (IBM), Africa. John joined IBM in Sept 2014, bringing with him vast experience from the academic community in East Africa. His role involves leading IBM academic programs with universities in countries in the Sub-Saharan African region.

John has been instrumental in forging collaborations for IBM with numerous institutions of higher education and ministries of education in the African region. The outcome of the programs initiated so far includes having over 1000 certifications and over 5000 trained students and faculty members on the new and emerging technologies, including cloud computing, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, Internet of Things, data science, cybersecurity, and many more.

Before joining IBM, John was the founding Manager of @iBizAfrica, the Business Incubator and Innovation Center at Strathmore University, and a faculty member in the Faculty of Information Technology at the same institution, teaching software engineering and computing courses. He was instrumental in coordinating the first-ever e-readiness survey of over 50 universities in East Africa while working with Kenya Education Network Trust (KENET). He is interested in the application of technology in educational environments and developing digital skills among young professionals. His research interests include ICTs in education, ICT4D, Free & Open source software, and Innovation & entrepreneurship.

His contribution to the local technology community was recognized at the iHub Tech Community Award ceremony on 8th March 2015.

Prof. Francis WambalabalaProfessor of Economics and Planning Expert

Prof. Wambalaba has a strong interdisciplinary background with emphasis on economic development in the context of both rural and urban development. He holds a double major BSc in Economics and a BA in Business Administration (1983); an MSc in Economics focusing on Economic Development (1985) and a Certificate in International Business Studies (1985);a second Master’s degree in Urban Studies with emphasis on Transport Planning and Spatial Analysis (1989); and a PhD in Urban Studies with emphasis on Economic Analysis and Transport Planning (1993).

He is a certified planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP – 1999) and earned other related certificates including Transit Operations Planning from MIT (1994), and Public Private Partnerships by Institute for PPP in Washington DC (2005).He has led and facilitated several strategic plans at university level especially in the transport sector in Kenya and the United States.

Prof. Wambalaba has a little over 30 years of experience in both the United States and Kenya, inclusive of 11 years as a senior urban transportation planner in Portland, Oregon USA, three years as senior research associate at Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) at University of South Florida (USF) in USA, and six plus years as Director/ Associate DVC-AA Research for Research and Academic Program Development at USIU Kenya. Previously, Francis managed a capacity building program including coordination of Transportation Demand Management (TDM) teaching faculty through CUTR at USF for three years; managed an on-line technical advisory clearinghouse serving professionals across the United States and Canada with some members from Europe and elsewhere; and several grant funded research projects. He has also been a project manager for large projects including transportation projects in Portland Oregon and the Gates Foundation-funded Agribusiness capacity building in Kenya.

Prof. Wambalaba has a strong interdisciplinary academic background in the context of economic development of both rural and urban development strategies. In addition to the above credentials, he holds certificates in Public Private Partnerships by Institute for PPP in Washington DC (2005), Public-Private Cooperation (2012) by Kenya National Economic and Social Council.

Her PhD thesis is on Sexual Reproductive Health Campaign Messages. She has over 30 years experience in Media ranging from programme production on various topics to Broadcast Management to Leadership. She is the Executive Director of Trans World Radio (TWR) Kenya and SIFA FM Stations. She is an adjunct faculty of Media Studies at Daystar University and Moi University Campus, Nairobi. She has set up 8 FM Stations, most of them in the ASAL regions of Kenya. She is a 2021 PhD graduate in Communication Studies from Moi University, Kenya. Areas of interest include Communications, Research, Governance & Leadership, Resource Mobilization and Media Management.

Prof. Kehbuma LangmiaFull Professor, Communication Studies ( Formerly SLMC), Howard University, Washington, DC

Dr. Kehbuma Langmia is a double Fulbright Scholar/ Professor and Chair in the Department of Communication Studies, School of Communications, Howard University. A graduate from the Communication and Media Studies Program at Howard University, Dr. Langmia received his Ph.D under the supervision of the feminist scholar, Carolyn Byerly. He has extensive knowledge and expertise in Information Communication Technology (ICT), Intercultural, Cross Cultural and International Communication, Black Diaspora Communication Theory, Decolonial Media Studies, Social Media and Afrocentricity. Since earning his PhD in Communications and Media Studies from Howard University, he has published 18 books, 18 book chapters and 10 peer-reviewed journal articles nationally and internationally. In 2020, He received the prestigious NCA Orlando Taylor distinguished research scholar award as a top scholar in African and African American communication publications. He is a visiting scholar at Daystar University, Kenya and MUBS, Makerere University, Uganda, Buea University, Cameroon and University of Winneba, Ghana. In November 2017, Dr. Langmia was awarded the prestigious Toyin Falola Africa Book Award in Marrakesh, Morocco by the Association of Global South Studies for his book titled “ Globalization and cyberculture: An Afrocentric Perspective”. For the last four years he has been selected by Howard University to act as scholar coach for the Howard University Summer Writing Academy.
